Handcrafted Heirlooms

Dominique and Jack Allen are a couple whose story is full of pride and commitment to quality and craftsmanship. The high school sweethearts own JAD Custom Engraving, where they produce heirloom quality sterling silver jewelry designed for the modern cowgirl.

If you browse their website, you’d be amazed at the intricacy of the designs and the artisan spirit burning bright in this dying trade. The prices are affordable, and intentionally so, as the Allens  knew the struggle of being a young couple who could not afford a wedding band set. Forward thinkers devoted to helping posterity, the Allens began crafting ring sets that were lovely and durable, while also being accessible for those just starting out.

Although rings, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces are the majority of what they create now, the business began years ago with another sacred piece of western lore: the belt buckle. Jack Allen won a buckle at a rodeo and became curious about the design it bore. He began exploring the craft, and soon had taught himself silversmithing. Allen and his father started making buckles, and over the years it evolved into the jewelry industry.

Today, Jack continues to help others in the industry in hopes the craft will live on. He and Dominique partner throughout the process, from soldering to engraving and even special details like shadow boxing. Their business is marked by their commitment to quality and their understanding of the west. Ranchers need jewelry that can be worn day in and out, and still shine up to show off on the town on the weekend, in the same way their grandparents worked the land and still took pride in their appearance.

As JAD Custom Engraving’s digital presence continues to grow, they share that they entered the web arena with some hesitation due to the distance it put between them and their customers. It is the story and legacy of their jewelry, both from the love they pour into it and the love it holds from the wearer, that keeps the spirit of the modern west alive.

I invite you to view their website and take a few minutes to appreciate the beauty of something entirely handcrafted in an age where machines do much of the work.
